Task 3 - Sources of information

When creating my advert i used a lot of sources of documents to help structure the process.

When it came to the production stage, we briefly referred back to the storyboard just to be sure of what parts we were about to film. Having this document helped us to have a structure to the process and incase if anyone ever forgot anything then they could look back at this document but that was not likely to happen and did not.

For our planning we did not make many notes because we discussed between us clearly what we was going to do and sticking to that plan so that we wouldn't have to plan, rush or improvise anything in the future. We used sketches instead to make different ideas and then come to one decision as a group.

When it came to our budget we were very responsible and stayed well within our budget limit. Having done this gave as the advantage of emergency money incase if anything ever happened to the filming equipment or costumes. We also did not need to use any money for transport as we saw from our location plan. It was within walking distance and we hardly used it because the directions were very direct and easy because there was hardly any turns when going to the location. We also went on google maps and chose specifically the quickest route to get to the location which benefited us because we saved a lot of time which also meant more time to film if needed.

For the shooting schedule document, we used quite a few times when it came to looking at time we started recording and what time we were going to finish. Looking at the document and seeing how long each scene should be was very efficient and allowed us to stay in control. If we did not have this document then it could of caused problems such as taking longer than we should to film a scene and possibly eventually running out of time to film the scenes.

The shot list document was the most important document because this was basically the plan for when it came to actually recording the advert. This document was our reminder of what we want the advert to look like, by that i mean the types of shots that we were going to use in the advert. We had 2 different sections which was for the phone itself and the running scene which would display different angles which we felt were the best for those scenes.

For costumes and props we did not need the document because no props were needed and the actors were already dressed and purchased the costume in advance. The storyboard was not used because we already knew in which order we was going to record and knew what to do for each scene, we also stuck to this storyboard from the beginning.

Although we did not feel it was necessary, we had a risk assessment sheet to basically ensure everyones safety. We did not use it that much because we were all responsible and aware of our surroundings. On the other hand, this document was a reminder for us for what to be aware of so that no one got injured or hurt. The only huge threat was traffic but the route that we took hardly had any traffic and we was not on the main roads so it wasn't very busy. All of our crew had each others numbers so we were able to communicate with each other before filming so that we would know if we are all able to film on that day and where they are. This also benefited because we could call and see if any crew members were able to do something for the group such as bringing a bottle of water to give to the character that was jogging.

For our audience research we used survey monkey to ask the public questions regarding mobile devices. This helped us choose our target audience and what phone to use. Also our focus group gave recognizable answers to the answers from the survey monkey which made us more focused on the high percentage questions and relate it to them.

The document were useful for remembering what we were doing but we did not use them much because we all knew what we was doing and were clear on the plan and visuals.
- Next time we should pick somewhere a little bit more lively because there were not many people seen in the background which would help to make it look more realistic.
- The document that could be improved next tine would be the time schedule because we kept running into small things such as traffic causing us to take longer to film.

  1. For the distinction, for the docs you said you didn't use, like costumes and props, explain how this would have been useful if you were a professional production company.
