For our product we used a focus group and a survey to gain information. We asked people questions regarding mobile devices and also their age. The survey was used to answer specific questions which benefited us in knowing exactly what they think.
- The cons of these methods were that the focus group wasn't very big and neither were the survey responses, the information was still enough for us to use though.
This meant that we wouldn't be getting high quantity opinions meaning the product may not match what certain want from a phone which meant loosing sales.
- The pros of these methods is that we saved a lot of time and money gathering a small group of people and also getting too many peoples opinions can become biased.
If we had chose to get a lot more people to be in our focus group then this would took more time to organise and also too many people at once to give their opinions.
When asking the focus group questions i kept the questions short and brief so that i could get a quick response and was able to get around to everyone and hear their feedback. I asked questions such as; do you like big or small phones, do you prefer Apple or Android phones, what do you look for in a phone etc.. I received clear answers such as either a yes or no and once they gave me their answer i asked them to explain their answer briefly. Doing this made the process quick and gained the relevant information

We gathered our information from people ages between 16 - 18 because this was the age range from the focus group we gathered but the surveys had responses from people from the age of 12. We did not aim to ask or gather specific gender groups but just allowed anyone to turn up and there was both males and females in our focus group which gave us an insight on their different preferences.
In the survey i asked questions such as; how old was you when you got your first phone, what phone do you prefer, what size phones do you prefer etc... Asking these types of questions was effective because it let us know whether different aged people prefer different things and if they were to prefer different things because of their age then we would have to decide which audience to target. Also it was very easy to answer the questions because the possible answers were already there but you just have to pick the one that relates to you

We believe our feedback was reliable because the audience were telling us purely their honest opinions and even things that can make our products better. The feedback also allowed us to look at more aspects than one which can lead to our sales audience to become bigger. To improve the process next time i could get each person in the focus group to bring an additional person just for that extra opinion. Also i believe that i should survey people abroad to see what their opinions are like and see if they prefer different things, this would make our sales audience much bigger.
